Ink

The ink record allows the user to add all inks and varnishes used in the Product Engineering. The ink needs to be recorded only for the Engineering to calculate its consumption and cost. For more information, refer to "Ink Consumption and Cost Calculation in the Engineering.”

Information on the Ink Record Window

Go to Sales > Records > iQuote > Engineering > Raw Material > Ink

Tip: For more information on the buttons in this toolbar refer to “Standard toolbar” in Basic Navigation.

Tip: For more information on adding or editing search features refer to "Searching” in Basic Navigation.

Tip: For more information on how to add other information in columns, refer to "Views" in Basic Navigation.

Add Ink

Tip: To be able to add inks, it is necessary to have the following records previously defined: "Color", "Color Type", "Cost Account", "Sub Cost Account" and "Unit of Measurement".
These records can be accessed using the fast link when the ink is recorded. For more information, refer to "Using the Fast Link".

The user is required to have enabled the following access options, for adding inks:

EPS > SALES > RECORDS > IQUOTE > ENGINEERING > RAW MATERIAL > INK > ADD INK

In the system’s main menu, click Sales > Records > iQuote > Engineering > Raw Material > Ink or enter "Ink" in the Quick Search field.

Click Add. The following screen will open:

Complete the fields as described below:

Field

Description

Ink

Ink name used in the Product Engineering. For example: "Offset UV Ink - Black."

Colorant Type

Colorant type to which ink belongs. For example, the Webfed Offset black ink belongs to the Webfed Offset Colorant. The colorant type defines the ink calculation formula and is linked to the Production Group. For more information, refer to "Add Colorant Types.”

Color

Name of the color name to be selected in the Product Specification. The user should select the main color such as CMYK or spot color. This way, the remaining inks will be automatically created for the selected option.

When adding an ink to a color that is not the main color, the system will show a message requesting to add the main. For more information, refer to "Colors".

Cost Account

Name of the cost account to which the ink cost shall be allocated for future cost analysis. For more information, refer to "Add Cost Accounts."

Cost Subaccount

Name of the cost sub account to which the ink cost shall be assigned. For more information, refer to "Add Cost Accounts.

If the appropriate cost sub account is not listed, make sure the selected cost account is correct.

Inventory Item

Inventory item to which the ink must be linked to facilitate the material request.

If the appropriate inventory item is not displayed, it is necessary to record it. For more information, refer to "Add Inventory Items.”

Production Unit

Unit of measurement to be sent as default for the modules of production for requesting materials. This field does not affect the Engineering calculation unit, which is the same as the generic Engineering component type unit.

For more information, refer to "Add Engineering Component Types.”

Density

Factor used for converting the ink consumption unit of measurement from kilograms to liters. By default this factor is 1 – indicating that 1 kg of water is equivalent to 1 liter of water. This field will not be used by the Engineering. It is only used for requesting materials and should only be changed if the ink request is made per liters instead of per kilograms. For example, when entering 1.2 in this field, the system will consider that each liter of ink weighs 1.2 kg.

Solids Content Factor

Factor that indicates how much of the ink's weight shall be added to the final product weight. After the ink is applied, a part of it remains on the paper and another part of it evaporates. This way, only part of the initial ink weight is applied to the final product.

For example, if the total ink weight calculated is 1 kg and the value entered in this field is 0.2, the ink weight added to the final product is 200 grams (0.2 kg).

This field is not being considered in the product engineering up to now. However, it is recommended to fill it for future use.

Specific Weight (consumption factor)

Factor indicating the ink consumption. For example if the ink consumption was 1 kg, when entering 1.2 in this field it will be changed to 1.2 kg. This factor will change the consumption calculated by the Engineering.

Minimum Consumption

Minimum amount of ink consumption in kilograms, to be applied in the Engineering. Even if the actual consumption is inferior to it, the value set in this field will be considered as the consumption. If actual consumption is higher than what is defined in this field, the greatest value will be considered.

External Reference

Name used for integrating the ink record with other systems.

Active

Indicates if the ink will be available for use in the Engineering.

Plant

Plant which indicates a material can only be used for Production Groups in the same plant, once it is linked to this material. Once the plant is selected and the raw material saved, it will no longer be allowed to unlink the plant linked to it, therefore, it is recommended to set this configuration with caution.

This field only appears if the “Separate raw materials by plant” is enabled in Sales > Records > iQuote > Commercial > Estimate General Setup.

When finished, click Confirm.

Tip: For more information on the ink calculation formula, refer to "Add Colorant Types.”

Edit Ink

The user is required to have enabled the following access options, for editing inks:

EPS > SALES > RECORDS > IQUOTE > ENGINEERING > RAW MATERIAL > INK > EDIT INK

In the system’s main menu, click Sales > Records > iQuote > Engineering > Raw Material > Ink or enter "Ink" in the Quick Search field.

Click the appropriate ink to select it.

Click Edit.

Edit as needed. For more information on the buttons and fields on this screen, refer to “Add Ink.”

When finished, click Save.

Delete Ink

The user is required to have enabled the following access options to be able to delete inks:

EPS > SALES > RECORDS > IQUOTE > ENGINEERING > RAW MATERIAL > INK > ADD INK

In the system’s main menu, click Sales > Records > iQuote > Engineering > Raw Material > Ink or enter "Ink" in the Quick Search field.

Click the appropriate ink to select ir.

Click Delete.

Click Yes to confirm the action.

Tip: If the selected item is being used, the system displays a message that it can not be deleted.

Ink Consumption and Cost Calculation in the Engineering

Record the ink in the Inks record. For more information, refer to "Add Inks.”

Check if the Component Class 1004 – Colorant exists in the Engineering Component Types record. For more information, refer to the "Add Engineering Component Types.”

In production groups, link the Component Class 1004 – Colorant to the printing functionalities inputs. For more information, refer to "Setting Printing Functionalities.”

Enter the ink cost in its record. For more information, refer to "Add Ink Costs.” The ink’s consumption calculation and costs are displayed in the Engineering.
